Mat Kearney Is Always Trying To Reinvent Himself

Mat Kearney

Mat Kearney spoke with Illinois Entertainer about his third major mark album ‘Young Like’, which continues the 32-year-ancient singer songwriter’s evolution.

“I reckon I’m always trying to reinvent myself a small bit,” Kearney clarified. “Some people maybe would be content to make the same record over and over again and cater to just the people who bought their last record, but I’m always hungry to explore new lands while bringing your fans along with you. It’s like asking, ‘This is where I want to go, would you join me?’ I’m staying right to who I am but exploring. On this record, I drew a line in the sand and wanted to do something very clear, intense, and in your face, which I feel like I accomplished.”

‘Young Like’ is out August 2nd on Aware Records/Universal Republic.

Pia Toscano’s Debut Album Will Be Pop With An R&B Influence

Pia Toscano

Though Pia Toscano’s first single ‘This Time’ has a country/pop-leaning sound, the ‘American Idol’ season ten finalist tells MTV News her debut album on Interscope Records will steer the 22-year-ancient in a different direction. “That song sounds kind of country, but [the album's] not just one thing, not pop or R&B,” Pia clarified. “It will be pop with an R&B influence, with an edge. It will be soulful and powerful.”

Toscano also revealed that being ninth place on ‘Idol’ could have worked to her advantage. “If I had made it a week further, I may not have gotten signed by Interscope,” she said. “I got [to] working immediately, doing demos for [Interscope boss] Jimmy [Iovine] and I had to work for him to pick me up and sign me.”

Rebecca Black On The Challenge To Follow-Up ‘Friday’

Chris Wragge and Rebecca Jarvis of ‘The Early Show’ spoke with internet sensation Rebecca Black about her second single ‘My Moment’. Questioned about the pressure to follow-up the online sensation ‘Friday’, Rebecca responded, “It’s hard, because ‘Friday’ was such a hit, so to get something you have to find the perfect song that tells off the haters a small bit but still shows that you’re still a serious artist.”

As for how she gained a “cool” factor, Black said, “I reckon it’s a combination of being with such a huge star like Katy Perry and just to have confidence in yourself. That’s probably the largest thing.”

Rebecca Black ‘My Moment’ Video

Rebecca Black is out with the music video to her new single ‘My Moment’, available on iTunes under the mark RB Friday, Inc. The 14-year-ancient said the music video tells “the tale of her sudden rise to fame. It’s a fairy tale tale, but it happened in real life.” The song will be featured on Rebecca’s five-track EP, which will be released in August.

“My favorite part about working on the video set was doing the choreography,” Black said about the music video. “We had this incredible choreography, and a lot of my backup dancers and the choreographer were from ‘So You Reckon You Can Dance’, and I watch that show, so it’s very cool to me. It was really fun, just to get back into dancing because I’m a dancer, so it was really cool to get back into that.”
