Michael Jackson’s estate admits recycled song

Michael Jacksons estate admits recycled songAs you all know, Michael Jackson’s first posthumous single finally debuted on Monday after a banquet of hype…And the Jackson estate was soon in deep distress.

Canadian singer, Paul Anka, who wrote the 1968 classic, ‘My Way’ declared that the song was really his and demanded full credit, plus a share of the cash from the Jackson estate…And he won.

The administrators have offered Paul, 68, a remarkable 50% of the song’s total earnings – which could run into millions. “They realize it’s a mistake, that it’s my song and my production of his vocal in my studio and I am getting 50%…which is honest,” Anka told reporters today.

Paul first worked on the song – then called, ‘I Never Heard’ – in collaboration with Jackson in 1983. But they disagreed on the treatment and Jackson kept all the tapes. Paul got them back and it was finally released in 1991, performed by an unknown Latin singer named ‘Sa-Fire.’

Today, the Jackson estate are in hurt control, “The song was picked because of the name Michael gave his tour,” a spokesman told the Independent. “We are thrilled to present this song in Michael’s voice, and that his fans have responded in huge numbers.”…and here comes the control, “The song was co-written by the legendary Paul Anka.”

Some reviewers, but, were less than kind; Jon Pareles, music critic of The New York Times said the ‘new’ song “won’t be on anyone’s list of Michael’s best songs – even if it’s a long list.”

Sales of Michael’s records predictably soared since his death, and the joint release of the ‘This is It’ movie and album on October 28 will further drive up the value of the late singer’s estate, already worth over $400 million.

The two-disc set will feature some ‘Greatest hits,’ plus two versions of the recycled  single. The second disc will include unreleased versions of some classic tracks, plus a poem read by Michael called, “Planet Earth” which will be making its worldwide debut [They hope!]

For what it’s worth, “My Way” was based on a French song called “Comme D’habitude” (it means, “As Usual”), which Anka first heard in 1968. He re-wrote the lyrics, renamed it ‘My Way.’ and Frank Sinatra made the song a cult anthem….and Paul Anka got rich.
